EA FC 26 Road to the Final: Full Team, Stats & Upgrade Guide
Important disclaimer: Buying or selling EA FC coins through third-party services is against EA's Terms of Service. This guide covers RTTF as a promo event. If you choose to buy coins to prepare, understand the risks. Read our complete safety guide first.
Road to the Final is back. The RTTF promo is expected to go live on Friday, March 27 at 6 PM GMT, and thanks to FUT Sheriff, we already have the expected full team with leaked stats. This is one of the more exciting promos of the cycle because every card is a live item. If the player's club keeps winning in UEFA competitions, the card keeps upgrading. Pick the right one early, and you could be looking at a 96+ rated card by the time the finals roll around.
Here's the complete team, how upgrades work, which cards to target, and how to get them.
How RTTF upgrades work
RTTF cards are live items. They start with a boosted base rating and can earn up to five additional upgrades as the player's club progresses through their UEFA competition (Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, or Women's Champions League). You don't need to do anything, and the player doesn't need to appear in any matches. If the club advances, the card upgrades. If the club gets knocked out, the card stays where it is.
The upgrade path for FC 26 RTTF follows a milestone structure. Each stage unlocks a different type of boost, not just OVR. Based on FIFAUTeam's RTTF mechanics page and the established structure from Knockout Royalty earlier this cycle:
| Milestone | Upgrade | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Win or draw first knockout match | +1 OVR | UCL, UEL, UECL only (one-time). If the first match is a second leg and the club qualifies, expect a double upgrade. |
| Qualify for quarter-finals | +1 OVR + Role++ | The Role++ upgrade can significantly change a card's in-game functionality. |
| Reach semi-finals | +1 OVR + 1★ Skill Moves or Weak Foot | This is where cards start becoming genuinely elite. |
| Reach the final | +1 PlayStyle+ | An extra PlayStyle+ can be game-changing for meta viability. |
| Win the final | +1 OVR or boosted to 96 OVR + 5★ SM or 5★ WF | The ultimate upgrade. Cards from the winning club become endgame tier. |
Upgrades are applied on Friday evenings after each stage concludes. This is important for trading: prices tend to spike right after a win and settle by the weekend. Note that if a player transfers away from their RTTF club during the campaign, the card becomes ineligible for further upgrades.
Note: the exact RTTF upgrade ladder for FC 26 has not been fully detailed by EA at time of writing. The table above reflects the expected structure based on FIFAUTeam's tracker and the Knockout Royalty mechanics from earlier this cycle. We'll update if EA confirms any differences.

Best cards to target
Not all RTTF cards are equal. The investment logic is straightforward: pick players whose clubs are likely to advance the furthest, because more rounds mean more upgrades (and more diverse upgrades, including Role++, SM/WF stars, and PlayStyle+). Here are the standouts.
Mbappé (93 ST, Real Madrid) is the headline card and already looks absurd at base: 99 pace, 95 shooting, 95 dribbling. Real Madrid are among the strongest remaining contenders in the Champions League, which means this card could realistically hit 96 or 97 OVR with multiple upgrades plus a Role++ and SM/WF boost on the way. He will be extremely expensive, and whether the upgrade potential justifies the entry cost depends on how far Madrid go.
Salah (93 RW, Liverpool) is the other headliner. Liverpool have been one of the strongest teams in Europe this season. A 93-rated Salah with 93 pace, 93 shooting, and 93 dribbling at base is already elite. With a couple of upgrades plus a PlayStyle+ and potential 5-star SM or WF from the semi-final milestone, this card could be endgame.
Tchouaméni (92 CM, Real Madrid) is worth watching as a value alternative. A 92-rated box-to-box CM with 91 defending and 89 physical, attached to Real Madrid's upgrade path? If Madrid reach the semi-finals, this card picks up +3 OVR, a Role++, and a SM/WF star, which could make him one of the stronger midfielders in the game at a fraction of the Mbappé price.
Hincapié (91 CB, Arsenal) is a strong option for anyone running a Prem back line. He's on loan at Arsenal from Leverkusen and has been impressive since arriving. Arsenal are in the UCL quarter-finals and capable of going further. At 91 base with 91 defending, even one or two upgrades make this a top-tier CB with the chemistry links to match.
The Villa vs. Bologna wildcard: In the Europa League, Aston Villa face Bologna in the quarter-finals, which means Sancho (90 RW, Villa) and Bernardeschi (90 CAM, Bologna) are directly competing. Only one club can advance, which makes this a genuine coin flip. Sancho carries stronger Prem chemistry demand, while Bernardeschi offers Serie A links. If you have a view on that tie, one of these could be worth picking up early.
Budget picks: Gibbs-White (90 CAM, Forest) and Yates (91 CDM, Forest) both carry strong English league links. If Forest's European run continues, both could become very usable with the Role++ and SM/WF upgrades from later milestones. Parrott (91 ST, AZ) is another accessible option.
How to get RTTF players
There are four main ways to get RTTF cards once the promo goes live (expected March 27 at 6 PM GMT).
Packs. RTTF items appear in any pack that contains player cards. Your odds improve with packs that have more rare player items (Mega Packs, Rare Player Packs, Jumbo Rare Player Packs). If you've been saving packs, this is a reasonable time to open them, especially if you want a shot at Mbappé or Salah. Keep in mind that pack odds for the highest-rated cards are always low.
Transfer market. If you know which card you want, buying from the market is the most reliable approach. RTTF cards tend to be most expensive right at launch and often dip during the following days as more supply enters the market. If you're patient, waiting until Sunday or Monday for a specific card can save you a meaningful amount. The exception is cards whose teams win their first match, as those tend to spike immediately after the result.
SBCs. EA typically releases RTTF-themed SBCs throughout the promo week. These can offer guaranteed RTTF player packs or specific untradeable RTTF cards as rewards. Keep your high-rated fodder ready. If an RTTF SBC player comes from a strong club, it can be one of the best value grinds in the promo.
Objectives. EA sometimes offers RTTF cards through in-game objectives (play X matches, score Y goals with Z type of player). These are usually lower-rated cards but worth completing for free content.

The investment angle
RTTF is one of the few promos where card values can increase over time rather than just declining. Every time a team wins and the card upgrades, demand and price tend to follow. This creates a unique trading dynamic, but it's also riskier than most promos because it depends entirely on real football results.
The general approach: buy RTTF cards from clubs you believe will advance, ideally a few days after release when the initial hype premium has faded. Then hold through the knockout rounds. Each win typically bumps the card's market value because the upgrade makes it more desirable and the remaining upgrade potential increases.
The risk: if the team loses, the card stops upgrading and usually drops in value, sometimes sharply. There's no recovery path once a club is eliminated. This is why club selection matters far more than individual card stats with RTTF, and why confident predictions are difficult. Upsets happen every year.
For the Champions League, Real Madrid and Liverpool cards carry the strongest upgrade ceilings based on their current tournament position and squad strength. That's already priced in to some extent (Mbappé and Salah will be the most expensive cards at launch), but mid-tier picks like Tchouaméni, Mac Allister, or Hincapié from those same clubs can offer a better balance of cost and potential upside. For the Europa League, the Villa-Bologna quarter-final creates an interesting coin flip with clear Prem vs. Serie A chemistry implications.
This is also a promo where having coins ready matters more than usual. RTTF cards tend to settle in price a few days after release, which can be a good buying window. FAQ
When does the RTTF promo start?
Based on leaks, Friday, March 27, 2026 at 6 PM GMT. It is expected to replace the Answer the Call promo and run for approximately one week.
How do RTTF card upgrades work?
Cards can earn up to five additional upgrades based on their club's UEFA competition progress. These include OVR boosts, Role++ upgrades, Skill Moves or Weak Foot stars, and PlayStyle+ additions at different milestones. Upgrades are applied on Fridays after each stage concludes. The player does not need to appear in any matches for the card to upgrade.
How do I get RTTF players?
Through packs (any pack with player cards), the transfer market, SBCs (EA releases RTTF-themed challenges during the promo), and objectives. The transfer market is the most reliable way to get a specific card.
Which RTTF cards are the best investment?
Cards from clubs most likely to advance the furthest, since each round unlocks a different bonus. For the Champions League, Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Arsenal players carry strong upgrade potential. For budget options, look at English clubs in the Europa League for their chemistry link demand. Keep in mind that RTTF investments are inherently speculative, as results are unpredictable.
Will RTTF cards rise or fall in price?
It depends entirely on results. Cards upgrade when their club wins, which tends to increase demand and price. Cards whose clubs get eliminated usually drop and don't recover. This makes RTTF one of the more volatile promos for trading.
Should I open my saved packs for RTTF?
RTTF has some very desirable cards (Mbappé, Salah, Musiala), so if you've been saving packs, this is a reasonable time to open. That said, TOTS is roughly a month away and historically offers higher pack weight and more cards in packs. The decision depends on whether you'd rather take a shot at RTTF now or wait for the higher-volume TOTS event. Check our TOTS guide for the full comparison.
